Disco!

Hey you!
Sorry for the very bad update. There are so many things going on right now, school, friends, family..
We're going to try to get better at updating. Well, our weekend has been great! Friday evening we went to our friend's restaurant. It was "taco night." Yum! Right next to the restaurant is the disco and a football gala was being held there. As curious as we all were, we went to check it out. There was dancing, singing, eating, drinking, and awards being handed out! Exciting.

Pictures from the footballs gala

Before we go, we have one question to ask;
What do you want to read about more on our blog? (More about Dubai, fashion, life in Sweden, the differences about living in Dubai and Sweden?)

Love++

Today we came home from school, did the oh-so-little homework that we had, and then our 4 year old cousin came over. We had to babysit her while her mom went to the hairdresser. It's so fun being in Sweden and seeing her grow up! We love how friends and family can just drop by. There's no need to cram in a time when we can all get together. Love, love, love.

The 2 cakes we ate yesterday.

99 Years and Still Going.

Heya!

Today our great grandmother turned 99 years old! Hipp Hipp Hurray; happy birthday Dagmar!
The day was celebrated by going to the elderly home where she lives, and eating cake. Two cakes to be precise. Pictures of them might be up tomorrow. It's so great to be able to go visit family whever you feel like it. That was one of the not so good things about living in Dubai. You couldn't be with your family and friends to celebrate special holidays, birthdays, or anniversaries...
Do you guys know the author of the Pippi Longstocking books, Astrid Lindgren? Well, we think that our great grandmother, Dagmar, and Astrid Lindgren are very much alike. What do you think?

Left: Astrid Lindgren, Right: Our great grandmother, Dagmar

Can you see the resemblance?

See you after school tomorrow! XXXX

Sweet

We just got home from school, now its time for a "fika," and then off the visit the great grandparents!  (Fika is a Swedish verb that roughly means "to drink coffee", usually accompanied by something sweet on the side.)

Yummy yummy in my tummy!

Guess what we ate last night?! Semlor. Our lovely Grandpa came home with them!

And for those of you who don't know what a "semla" is, here's a definition:

Semlor are big buns, divided into two and filled with whipped cream and almond paste. Many people like to eat them in a bowl of hot milk, which is the traditional way, while others prefer to eat them as they are. (More)

Aren't they mouth-watering? (Dad, Maria, Stefan; jealous? ;D )

SCHOOLio.

School is so cool.

Everybody has been so nice to us; they've been helping us get to classes, showing us around, introducing us to new people. Seriously, we love school.. so far, so good! We've been looking through some old pictures from Dubai 2008, and we found this picture of a gazelle taken in Al Ain at a zoo there. Isn't it beautiful?

A gazelle at Al Ain Zoo, 2008.

Time to go, buffalo!

Survivors

Yiiiiiippppeeeee! We survived our first day in a Swedish school! It was not just a little different from our old school, DAA.. it was very different. The way the students acted towards the teachers, the classes, the way we dressed. A lot of things we're going to have to adapt to. We'll compare and contrast our Swedish school and our American school in Dubai later. Now that should be pretty interesting!

Time for the Christmas decorations to go down :(  Are all your Christmas decorations gone yet or are you keeping them for a little longer?

See you soon, raccoon

Tomorrow is THE Day.

Tomorrow is "The Day." Tomorrow is the day we start school. Our first time in a Swedish school. We are super excited, but a liiiiiittle nervous aswell.. Hopefully, everything will be good and there will be no slipping on the icy sidewalks, cause that would be just a teeny bit embarassing.

Whats the most embarassing thing that has ever happened to you at school?

Our old school, Dubai American Academy. Lets see what our next schools look like? :)

Walking in a Winter Wonderland

-21°C is a bit too cold... Thats how cold it was this morning. F-R-E-E-Z-I-N-G. Hopefully the weather will get a bit better soon. Today we took a walk with our adorable little cousin. Seriously, a sunny winters day, the snow glistening under the sun, it couldn't be more perfect. It was like walking in a winter wonderland. Love.

Since theres so much snow right now, we went sledding. Haha, we never knew it could be so much fun! The speed.. Whew! We could barely stop. Almost scary. Almost.

Beautiful! A winter wonderland. Don't you agree?

Give a hug, ladybug.

- älskar dubai! -YEAH BABY!

Jaha, men va roligt! Det gör vi med :)

hejsan!

Varför bodde ni i Dubai ?

Det klart man längtar hem ibland men, thats life! :)

-Sanven

Haha, nej. Det har vi faktist inte. Har ni varit där kanske?

In A While, Crocodile!

We survived visiting our schools! Yiippeee! In fact, it went really well. Our teachers all seem super duper nice and friendly. Visiting our schools has made us a little less nervous, which is good. But we're sure that when the day comes for us to start school, we're gonna be 10x nervous. Okay, well here is a little collage of Chico in his cool little jacket just like I promised. Shopping/Comprar/La Spesa

Hey!
What have you all been up to? Well, we’ve been out shopping. A pair of black Uggs, a black United Colors of Benetton feather jacket, and 2 big, black, knitted scarves came home with us today. Lot’s of black, nice! :) Shopping winter clothes itself has been a whole experience, since we haven’t needed to wear them for 11 years in sunny Dubai. There are so many nice outfits to choose from! Speaking of shopping (!), how about us telling you some of our favorite shopping places in Dubai?

Forever 21
- A big favorite! Forever 21 has lots of cool clothes with pretty small sizes and good prices, too. There you can find anything you need from a party, to a semi-formal event, to “hanging-out-with-the-friends” days. A worthwhile shop to look in.

New Look
- New Look is another great shop! They have clothes, shoes, and accessories. You can pretty much always find something fun in there.

Bershka
- If you’re going for a little more “unique” or “playful”, then Bershka would be your shop! With all it’s colors and trendy prints, it definitely is fun! Lot’s of black and white stuff, too, for the more “black-and-white” people.

Pull and Bear
- Pull and Bear has lots of fun prints on their shirts. The prints usually tend to appear on their hoodies.

So, now we want to know: what are your favorite shops here in Sweden; or anywhere else in this world? ;)

Lots of Love XOXOX

The Biggest, Best, and Most Beautiful

Ciao!

We were thinking, and maybe some of you don't know a lot about Dubai, other than that the world’s biggest building is located there. That’s why we decided to write some “quick facts” about Dubai!

-Dubai is located in Asia, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on the Arabian Peninsula.

-Dubai is one of the 7 emirates in the UAE.

-Dubai has a population of over 1.3 million people, which continues to grow.

-About 80 % of the population in Dubai are foreigners or “expats.”

-The first 7-stars hotel was built in Dubai. It is called the Burj Al Arab. This is the building you may see on travel-programs or in brochures.

-The world’s tallest building stands in Dubai. The Burj Dubai climbs about 818 meters high up into the air! In fact, the opening of the Burj Dubai is tomorrow, 4 January, our lovely dad informed us! (We love you, Dad!)

-If you looovee shopping like we do, you just might want to visit Dubai. The world’s biggest mall is located there; Dubai Mall! Ahh, shopping, shopping, shopping :) Dubai Mall also has the biggest inside aquarium inside it and an ice-skating rink.

-You can ski in the desert. True or false? True!! Ski Dubai is an indoor ski-slope (located inside Mall of the Emirates- a shopping mall!) with different slopes for different levels, lifts, and a café. They also have a snow park. Its pretty cool because you can walk around in the mall wearing shorts and a t-shirt, then decide to go skiing for a couple of hourse since you get everything you need there! Well, believe it or not, that’s where we learned to ski. Haha!

You might or might not have noticed that Dubai usually goes for the biggest, best, and most beautiful, haha! :)

Well, there is SO much more to tell, except we wouldn’t be able to find the time to write everything down so, if there is anything special you would like to know about Dubai, UAE, or anything else, please comment it or send us a quick email at; [email protected]  Maybe about what us teenagers do, maybe about the shopping, the beach, school?

Take Care XOXOXOX

No need for thinking..

Marhaba Sweden!

This is our first real entry! Woohoo!  There are so many things going through our minds right now, but there is one that stands out more than the others. SCHOOL. We start a Swedish school 11 January, 2010. Talk about a nervous breakdown. One thing that is hugely different is not having to wear a school uniform! At our old school in Dubai, we were required to wear a school uniform. We had to wear navy blue skirts or pants, a light blue shirt, and a navy blue tie. Gossip Girl much? Haha! So, to personalize our school uniform we would wear different bracelets, hair bands, and we would wear our hair differently. I mean, think about it. Waking up in the morning, and not having to think about what you have to wear that day. No one gets teased for not having “cool” clothes and no one can get teased for not wearing designer/expensive clothes. What we're getting at is; no competition. Bliss! Sorry but we couldn’t find a picture of our school uniform but we shall keep on looking! Take a look at our old school’s website, and you might find our uniform somewhere; http://www.gemsaa-dubai.com/?

So, our question to you guys is; would you rather wear a school uniform, or wear your own clothes to school, and why?

Write to you soon! Love XXX

We know its not the best picture, but at least it shows our old school, Dubai American Academy.

New Year, New Blog!

Hey everybody!
Welcome to our blog! This blog is going to follow us, 2 Swedish sisters, on our journey from having lived in Dubai for 11 years, and now moving back to Sweden. We are 12 and 14 years old and have a great passion for photography and fashion. Hopefully, there will be some interesting photos in most of our posts. We are also going to try to describe about our life in Dubai and about our new life in Sweden. Maybe some comparing and contrasting? Comparing fashion, school, and everything relating to a teenager’s life. Happy New Year and we hope that you will follow us on our journey from the always-as-sunny Dubai to the 4-seasons Sweden!
