DUBAI MALL AQUARIUM LEAKAGE!

The world's biggest shopping mall, Dubai Mall, has the world's biggest inside aquarium that can hold up to 10 million litres of water. The tank is 32.8m wide and 8.3m high. Yesterday a crack was found in the meter thick glass! The shopping mall's owner, Emaar Properties, offered a statement saying that this leakage did/does not affect the saftey of the shopping mall or the saftey of the animals inside the aquarium.

Pretty scary.. We sure wouldn't want to be there if the glass breaks and 10 million litres of water comes gushing out!!

This is a picture (that our friend took) of a part of the aquarium, probably close to the crack. We're not really sure what that is, but it looks like some kind of bubble? Haha! Maybe to keep the water that leaks out from running out onto the floor at the shopping mall?

What do you think that "bubble thing" is and what do you think it does?

P.S. -If you want to read more about this, and in Swedish, check out aftonbladet's article; http://www.aftonbladet.se/nyheter/article6677953.ab

It rains in Dubai?

Yes, it does rain in Dubai. And this is what happens to our school (Dubai American Academy-DAA) and most of the schools in Dubai. Nice result, huh?

This doesn't exactly happen if it rains in Sweden, haha!!

Up Close

Goooooood morning!

We took this picture about 5 days ago. These kinds of deers usually don't come up close to people, but this one did! It was like it was posing for us, turning its head to the left and then to right. Turning sideways and holding its head high. Pretty cool! Believe it or not, we've never seen one of these deers before, haha! There aren't many of them in sunny Dubai! ;)

Later Alligator! XOXO

Chihuahua

Marhaba!
Yesterday our aunt, uncle, and little 4 year old cousin bought a chihuahua!! We LOVE chihuahuas. They are the cutest little things. The chihuahua they bought is white, and its little face and tiny ears are kind of pink. Its adorable.

We can't wait until we can dress it up in cool clothes, haha!

Do you like chihuahuas?

In Dubai lots of people had chihuahuas. A lot of our friends did, too. Some chihuahuas wore Gucci, Chanel, Fendi, and Dior clothes.. lucky them, huh? ;D

Our aunt, uncle, and cousin's chihuahua, cute as a button!

Haha, how cool wouldn't it be to dress your chihuahua something like this? (+the camouflague shirt is great since the dad is in the army!!)

DUBAI / HOME

Dubai is sometimes called "the fastest growing city in the world." Why? Let us tell you why.

Dubai became in 1971 one of the 7 emirates of the UAE (United Arab Emirates). The population increased from 265,702 in 1980, to 669,181 in 1995 and to 1,321,453 in 2006. . In 2003, 84% of the population was immigrated and 71% were men. The current population is around 5,500,000 people!! For a city to grow, building buildings is necessary. And to build buildings, you need construction cranes. About 25%-30% of the world's construction cranes can be found in Dubai.

Okay, reading about this might now be very fun or it might be hard to understand how much Dubai has changed over the years.. so here is a picture! (If you want to know more about Dubai, email us at; [email protected] or we have a question time/frågestund going on now, so comment and ask!)

Get it now? ;D It's changed quite a bit.. agree?

And you can still ask us questions!! Comment on this entry or the two underneath..

Burj Khalifa a.k.a Burj Dubai

Buenos noches amigos!

We we skyping with our dad today and he told us that yesterday the electricity was cut off at the Burj Khalifa. This resulted in people being stuck in the elevators for a whole 20 minutes!! We would definitely freak out, since we both don't like cramped spaces, such as elevators.

How would you feel if you got stuck in an elevator in the world's tallest building?

Ice-skating in the desert

Yo yo yo.
A here! J is at a friends house right now and I'm leaving to go to my friend at around 6:30.

On Monday I'm going ice-skating for P.E. Thank God, I have at least stood on ice-skates before!! As you might have guessed, Dubai has a couple of ice-skating rinks too. So, I've spent a few hours of my life ice-skating.. Hope it goes well and that I don't make a complete fool out of myself! But you can't blame me, after all, I have lived in the desert, and deserts aren't usually known for snow, ice, or cold weather..

Dubai Spice Souk and Creek

Marhaba/Tjaba tjena!
We just wanted to write a little about a place we miss in Dubai. That is, the Deira spice souk (souk = an open-air market) in Dubai. Walking there is lovely, smelling all the different aromas from the spices. It has your nostrils going crazy, haha! Some spices are so colorful that it feels like your walking through a rainbow. When walking, you get called on at least a million times, them telling you to come insisde there shop. Sometimes you even get a little something for free + just a little tip; being blonde helps, haha! So many different spices are sold there including yellow saffron, cinnamon and aniseed. Shops in the Deira spice souk also include various herbs and special perfumed oils which local healers and pharmacists have been using to make their own traditional medicine for a very long time, maybe even centuries. Another thing that is great to experience and see is their (the people that work their) relaxed lifestyle. They have no time to fit, and don't have to do anything in a rush. They drink tea and then get people into their shops. After that, they drink some more tea. They live such a stress-free life, which sounds pretty good to us!

Next to the spice souk there is the Dubai creek. After you've been adoring the beautiful spices and enjoying their lovely aromas, you could go take a ride on an abra (a traditional Arab boat). You can either rent one for yourself, or hop on one, riding with the Indians and locals. Riding with the Indians and locals is more of an experience, in our opinion. Its more... Dubai! Riding past huge yachts is not too unusual. If you choose to just go by boat to the other side of the creek, and not take a boat ride around the whole creek, there are many shops there. You can find beautiful clothes (especially dresses), pashmina shawls, and shoes. More shopping for the girls! Oh, and an "abra ride" back and forth costs you 2 dhs, which is equivalent to 4 Swedish kronor!! So, if any of you happen to be visiting Dubai, make sure to go to Deira and check out the spice market and take an abra ride on the Dubai creek!

That Summer Feeling

Seriously, we are beginning to doubt if this snow will ever melt!? Maybe in late June? It just keeps on snowing and snowing..

Right now we want summer, because summer brings flowers, greeness, sun, a little warmth, swimming, parties, no school, biking, and friends. There are a bazillion bajillion more things, we just can't name them all! We mean, whats not to like about summer!

What do you like about summer?

Thats another thing thats very different about living here in Sweden; there are 4 seasons. In Dubai we had winter and summer, but the winter was like a Swedish summer. About 25 degrees celsius during the day. Not a winter like this one, with 15 centimeters of snow on the ground! I think we can both for our part say that we wouldn't mind skipping having 4 seasons. 2 is fine with us!

P.S. Please keep telling us what you want to read more about on our blog. More about life in Dubai, more about the differences of Sweden and Dubai..? You name it, your wish is our command!
