RAMADAN
Ramadan is a holy month in which all Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset for one whole month. The daily fast is broken after the sunset prayer "al-maghreb" with an "iftar" (the Arabic word for "breakfast"). Muslims are also told to try and read the entire Qur'an (the Muslim "bible") during the month of Ramadan. During this month much of a Muslim's free time is spent in the mosque, reading and praying.
The end of Ramadan is marked by a big celebration called 'Eid-ul-Fitr' (the Festival of the Breaking of the Fast). During Eid-ul-Fitr Muslims dress in their finest clothes, get henna painting done on their hands and feet, give gifts to children and spend time with their friends and family. At Eid it is obligatory to give a set amount of money to charity to be used to help poor people buy new clothes and food so they too can celebrate.

During the month of Ramadan no restaurants are open for the public and you may not chew gum, drink water, or eat out, only inside your own home. If a police catches you doing this, you get fined..

The view from Sheikh Zayed Road, a 12-laned highway, 6 going one way, and 6 going to the other way!
This highway connects Dubai in a kind of way. It is one of the main roads there. You ride it to school, when you go out to eat, and etc.

$20 MILLION
The Atlantis hotel is located on the Palm Jumeirah, the man-made islands in Dubai.
The Atlantis cost $2.5 billion to build but it's launch party alone cost $30 million with 2000 celebrities being entertained by Kylie Minogue. The fireworks finale was seven times the size of the fireworks at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games opening ceremony!! They cost around $20 million, which makes it the world's most expensive fireworks and the most expensive in history aswell..

WEEK-end
FINALLY the weekend! +We have a longer weekend since Monday is a "studiedag."
(A "studiedag" literally means "study day" which was meant for kids to use the whole day to study, while teachers have different meetings and some attend teaching courses etc. Nowadays, nobody uses this day to study, its more like a day off, haha!)
We took this picture about a week ago, while eating breakfast before going to school.
